[attr="class","ow_tcontent"]In the beginning, Gods and Goddesses of the Old World were ordinary people with extraordinary skills. It was through the reverence of the people they helped, or conquered, that outfitted them as divine. As faith and fear in them evolved, so did their powers.
Ancient deities were symbols of natural catastrophes and human thought. In truth, they were ordinary people with extraordinary abilities that were revered because of their heroism or extraordinary talents among the mundane. Born with incredible powers, talents, or skills, they were viewed as Gods or Monsters, respected or feared, idolized or condemned. The more the people believed in them, the stronger their powers became. Eventually, they became so powerful their physical bodies were unable to contain their powers without "burning out" and were left with no other choice but to contain them in an item. Amulets, relics, and weapons became not only the source of their power but a symbol of their strength among the people.
Near the end of their reign, when new religions dominated the world, their relics of power were taken from them and hidden throughout the world, reducing them to mere mortals and myths. Some passed their abilities to their descendants or created beings that held a semblance of their power - or their curse. They were not as powerful but survived as a reminder of their influence. But it was always believed the once mighty deities would return. Each generation was believed to inhabit a reincarnated version of their ancestor but without the item of power, it was difficult to determine who it was or for them to reach their full potential. Recently, the ancient items have been mysteriously finding their way back to their owners and returning their memories of their past lives as well as their powers.
