[attr="class","likedoinfo"]Vampires are otherworlders who survive on blood. Central to vampirism is the point that the vampire was once a living human being, and only entered the vampiric state through the process of physical death. On this site, however, Vampires can be born or turned, much like Werewolves, under the right circumstances. The first Vampires were the children of the Ancient that birthed them and the humans they turned by giving them their blood.
In Ancient times, Vampirism held a more spiritual meaning. Those who willingly became Revenants did so as an act of sacrifice, removing themselves from the cycle of reincarnation for a time in order to serve some higher purpose that required more than a single lifetime. It wasn't until much later when humans began to fear vampires, that it became a reason to cheat death altogether.
(First generation born vampires and revenants are allowed but limited and must be discussed with an admin.)
Contrary to popular belief, Vampires can either be born or turned through blood. In both situations, it is not guaranteed the newborn will survive.
BORN VAMPIRES
The first full-blooded Vampires inherited their abilities from the Ancient that created them, however, modern full-blooded Vampires must be born from to two Vampire parents. It is very difficult for a female Vampire to become pregnant, even with a Vampire father, thus not many Vampires have large families. Vampires who conceive children with humans or mystics will pass only some of their traits resulting in hybrids. If a female Vampire was successful in getting pregnant, the process of being born is dangerous for both the mother and child and in most cases one or both will die within 24 hours. The older or stronger the mother is, the better chances they have at surviving. Because they are capable of living for many years, they are not as prolific as humans. Some Vampires go centuries without producing any children while others are lucky to have multiple generations preceding them.
REVENANTS
To become a Revenant the person must have Vampire blood in their system upon death. Once a human dies they begin to transition from the First Death to the next stage. A soul that is strong enough to remain in their body may be able to awaken before etheric disintegrations has gone too far. As long as the soul and body remain intact, the Second Death can't begin. The Second Death is when the individual soul crosses to the other side and therefore cannot come back after that point. Vampire blood secures their soul within their body before it can reach the Second Death, but only for a limited time.
The soul cannot remain in the body unless the body is preserved and sustained. A potential Revenant will remain in that transition state until they are fed blood; whether human, animal, or vampire, it doesn't matter. Until the potential is awoken by blood, they will remain dormant, or "asleep". The decaying process begins a week after death and if the body becomes damaged enough the potential will pass onto the Second Death. Mystics with enough experience can spell the body in order to preserve it, but this is not easily done and requires an anchor. Humans that are sick or in poor health have a lower chance of becoming a vampire unless taken with special care. Turned Vampires remain the age they were when changed and lose the ability to reproduce with any species besides born vampires or hybrids. Becoming a Revenant does not make them evil and murderous, however, because they are not used to the urges Vampires are prone to, newborns have a tendency to lose control and can be destructive.
PSYCHIC VAMPIRES
Psychic vampires are more or less the same except they feed on energy. They are rare and the only known way to become one is to be born from two vampires. Because of this, it is believed this is a genetic mutation that surfaces every couple generations. In some cases, they're the "succubi" and "inccubi" of the vampire world as psychic vampires can feed off sexual energy, but are not limited to such.
DIET - Though all Vampires have the natural instinct to hunt to quench their thirst, that doesn't make them all ruthless killers. Just like humans, they need a regular source of nourishment to replace what is used up in the course of their day to day lives. Vampires must feed every day. The amounts that have to be taken are usually enough to cause severe damage or death if taken from a human directly and have to be repeated on a regular basis. This understandably makes humans and mystics more than a little averse to having a vampire in the neighborhood and explains the harsh treatment visited on my vampires in the past. Recently some blood banks have accommodated vampires as a way to prevent them from attacking people within city limits. Born vampires can also eat human food, but is purely for tastes purposes as it provides no real nourishment.
TEMPERAMENT - They feel a whole array of emotions from happy to depressed and can even cry tears, though they're tears of blood. Vampires are also able to sleep and dream, however, they are more easily awoken than most.
MORTALITY - Born Vampires age and develop at a much slower pace than humans. Their aging process is slowed, but not stopped. For example, Vampires who are between 10-40 years old appear to be in their adolescent years, 100-120 may appear to humans as a normal teenager, whereas the oldest vampires ranging from 3,000 to 5,000 may appear in their mid to late 50's. Like Revenants, the more blood they drink, the younger they look. First generation vampires and their natural-born children are the only exceptions because their blood is much stronger and more powerful due to the closer connection to the Ancient that created them. First generation Revenants can exist, but require a lot more blood to keep themselves alive.
Revenants do not age and their appearance remains the same as when turned. The regularity of their diet determines how long they live, and as long as they have a healthy diet of fresh blood can live for centuries. Their blood intake makes them immortal, but not unkillable. If a vampire was deprived of blood for an elongated period of time they will start to desiccate and transition into the Second Death.
GLAMOUR - Most people find themselves uncontrollably attracted to Vampires, that is if the vampire chooses to attract you. This is called Glamoring. Once in a Vampires trance the only way of escape is for the Vampire to lose its concentration, usually caused by an attack on it or interruption. With this, they have the ability to control your thoughts and actions but their power is only as strong as their skill and current blood level. If Glamoured by a Vampire the victim is not aware of what is happening and have no control.
BLOOD - Vampire blood has several useful qualities. Their blood can heal either themselves or others, memories can be shared with humans and other vampires, and their blood provides a 'boost' for whoever consumes it. Their blood is the source of their abilities, so it can also enhance the abilities of other species. Werewolves under the influence of vampire blood can become stronger and faster or Mystics can consume vampire blood for more power. Their blood does not create immortality unless they become a vampire nor can it cure natural illness or magical curses.
Vampire blood ingested by another Vampire results in a temporary connection with the other Vampire. Though it isn't as strong as a blood bond between a sire and their progeny, the two Vampires will be able to feel the other's emotions, including when one is hurt, as well as sense their general location. This effect only lasts a few days unless fed the blood regularly.
HEIGHTENED ABILITIES - Vampires are highly adaptable and durable creatures, making them hard to find and even harder to kill. They are graced with abilities superior to that of their prey. Impeccable sight, the ability to hear long distances, as well as being able to pick up scents from a distance is only a few. When paired with the deadly speed and cat-like grace, as well as the strength of ten men, the Vampire becomes a major threat to most.
BLOOD - Vampires require a daily blood intake in order to survive. Dead man's blood, or diseased blood, can be dangerous for vampires, making them sick. Only fresh or properly preserved blood can sustain a vampire.
FIRE - One of the harder ways to kill a Vampire, Vampire's are rarely killed by fire due to their quick speed and heightened senses. Unless by the hands of another Vampire, it is hard for someone to keep a Vampire still long enough to actually catch them on fire. Although it may take longer to kill a Vampire then it would a Human, it is still one of the few things that are able to completely kill a Vampire. Weaker Vampires burn quickly, due to the lack of blood in their bodies and most times burn until they are ashes.
DECAPITATION - Decapitation is the most preferred way to kill a vampire by Human Hunters, mostly because it is a certain guarantee that the Vampire is dead and you get proof of it as well. Although not just any Human could achieve this due to the Vampire's quick reflexes and other abilities, but if the Vampire is weak enough or allows this, a strong and talented enough Human can kill him/her this way.
MAGIC - Vampires are susceptible to magic and can be overtaken by a Mystic if experienced enough.
